Charlotte Rollins plans to head off to college and away from her step father, but he's not the most of her worries. Evenings after her job, she finds herself stalked by ,not human, but a dog, a huge black one with crazy red eyes. After the evening of reuniting with her old high school friend, she was attacked by the dog which left her unconscious by the collision of her head against the pavement. She wakes up in Paranormal Public, home to creatures of the supernatural world, and she is one of them.
She is told that she's a Mage, who can't perform magic. She figures out that her mother was also a Mage, wanting desperately to live up to her mothers legend, she works her head off to summon her magic but nothing seems to work.
